Our city is growing. The District Plan is up for review. The decisions we make now will shape the way we live, for decades.

In the next 30 years Wellington will be home to 50,000 to 80,000 more people. That’s going to have a big impact on where, and how we live.

At Council, it’s our job to make sure our city has a diverse range of housing. People want to live in communities that are safe from earthquakes and rising sea-levels, in a city that is green, compact, inclusive, and vibrant.

Draft Spatial Plan Consultation and Engagement coming soon

The Draft Spatial Plan engagement is scheduled to open on 10 August subject to the approval of the Strategy and Policy Committee. It includes proposals for intensifying housing in the central city and suburbs, proposed changes to character settings, and ideas for making our city more about people and less about cars.

Live and online event: What's the shape of our city tomorrow?

5pm Soundings Theatre, Te Papa 13 August

See what’s planned, and hear from a panel of experts about what it means for us, for our city, for the future. You’ll be invited to submit feedback on the spot and can ask questions throughout the event. This feedback on the night will form part of the formal submission process.
